Glory's Hope Foundation
We kick off 2018 by bringing you our first initiative in West Africa. Nigeria to be precise.
It is our goal that we help and educate as many people as we can about sickle cell, that is why we created the GHF Africa Initiative. The number of people suffering with sickle cell on the continent of Africa alone is beyond human comprehension; that number is growing everyday.
We took our first initiative to Nigeria to give back to the birth place of our founder, Jeremiah Attaochu. It was a huge success. The turnout was incredible and it opened our eyes to see the great need in Africa.
Nigeria alone has the largest population of people with Sickle Cell Disease in the world, with over 150,000 babies born with the serious condition every year, research has shown.
Our Initiative took us to Ibadan Nigeria, where we organized an end of year event at the University College Hospital Ibadan. Over 120 people both sickle cell warriors and their caregivers were present. Community leaders in the city were also present at the meeting. A government representative from the ministry of health was present at the event and pledged the support of the state government in anything Glory's hope foundation brings to the table.
It was a time of getting to know the Warriors and hearing about their struggles. A panel made of doctors from the hospital, the state government officials, community leaders, religious leaders, social workers, nurses and our Glory's Hope representatives answered questions and advised the warriors and their caregivers as needed. Overall the main objectives of this kickoff to the Africa Initiative was met. We established a relationship with the hospital, we educated and provided awareness to the local sickle cell community, we brought smiles to the faces of kids and adults sickle cell warriors during the holiday period and in turn they were very happy and hopeful for the future. It is one of our main goals that at the end of all we do, we are able to bring hope to those suffering with sickle cell.
This Is Where We Need You
We have made some commitments to the hospital as well as the local government of Oyo State Ibadan Nigeria. We've promised to adopt some of the warriors in attendance through a vetting process based on the level of their needs. We've also promised to contribute to help renovate the completely rundown day center which currently only has 3 beds. The need is great and we need your help. A lot of the warriors don't have 1 dollar (360 Naira) to pay for registration fees when they come into the hospital on emergency or for checkup. We can't meet all their needs alone and we need your help.
WE ARE CHARITABLE & EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATION AND WE FALL UNDER SECTION 501(c)(3) AND CAN RECEIVE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS. WHATEVER YOUR REASON FOR DONATING AND HOWEVER YOU CHOOSE TO MAKE YOUR DONATION, WE WOULD TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT AND DONATIONS.
